Double world champion Michael Schumacher said Monday that he would like to prove himself in 1998. The German deliberately attempted to remove his rival, Canadian Villeneuve from the championship decider at Jerez in Spain.

Schumacher was widely criticized by the move. Observers belief that he will do it again this season, but Schumacher said he learned his lesson last season.

Motor sport's governing body, the FIA, took all Schumacher's points away for 1997, but many people including other drivers belief the punishment should have been harder.

The incident last season was the second attempt to remove his rival from the championship decider race. The first was in 1994 when Schumacher took former Formula One world champion Damon Hill out of the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide.

The FIA warned drivers that they would be punished severally if they attempt such a move in 1998.
