Giuseppe Farina won the first world drivers title in an Alfa. The first race was held at Silverstone on 13 May 1950. Ferrari was absent from the first race in which Farina set the fastest time during the qualifying session. Farina also won the first Formula One race.
Who is Dave Richards? He was appointed by Benetton as the chief executive. He replaced Briatore, who worked for the team for the past 8 years.
Richards will look after the commercial aspects of the team as well as teaching Rocco Benetton, son of the founder of Benetton, Luciano, more about the racing bussiness. Richards said the Benetton family wants Rocco to learn more about the racing bussiness.
Berger ends F1 career. Austrian Formula One driver, Gerhard Berger competed in 210 Grand Prix's before he retired in 1997 at the season ending race at Jerez in Spain.
Salo will never drive with Villeneuve again. Mika Salo said when he drives on public roads he takes it easy, but said he will never drive with Villeneuve in the same car again. He said, "I will never drive in the same car as Jacques Villeneuve ever again." Villeneuve almost killed him a few years ago. He said, "He almost killed me in Austria a couple of years ago!" He pulled on the handbrake in the snow, lost it, and we nearly went over the cliff. It was a very close thing."

How to get into F1 Tyrrell said they receive many applications from people who are interested to join them, but still there is big shortage of people available. They say they need true racing people and according to Tyrrell there are surprisingly few people. Tyrrell's Managing Director of Engineering, Harvey Postlethwaite said a racer would do whatever it takes to give the team its best chance. This person usually set his own aims and objectives aside for the good of the group. He also said F1 teams need specialists. The teams designers work at computer screens, using the latest CAD software. Mechanics work in spotless workshops, building cars from sub-assemblies, created by others. Tyrrell hire experienced people because of these reasons. Tyrrell said that sometimes they hire people from other teams, which they think are good. They can also advertise in magazines or newspapers. They will always first promote from the ranks and then look elsewhere. The team also needs young people to transport equipment to the various locations.
