A Look at Life

FlightSim-SA Mailing List

Have you ever walked through the busy streets of a city and then just stopped for a few moments and taken a good look around you. It's amazing to distance yourself from the intensity and business for a few brief moments and think about this world we live in. This page is dedicated to those moments which most of us have, where we slow to a stop, get really deep and realize, even if only for an instant, that life is a real mystery.

They say that clothes makes the man (or rather person to be politically correct). Have you ever wondered about this. Does what you wear really make that much of a difference ?
I think that this simple question reveals loads about the way we think rather than the way we dress.
I'm afraid that the answer is yes, what you wear and what you look like really does make a BIG difference in the world we live in. It may make no difference to you, as a person, but it seems that what you wear affects those around you. Lets look at some examples:

Picture the scene: A whole lot of really down and out people standing in a line outside a soup kitchen. You've seen that before, you may have even been one of those people. Now what happens to you, the observer, when you see the same line and there in the middle of the line somewhere, is a guy in a designer suite. Your thoughts may wonder as to what in the world would someone like that be doing in a soup kitchen line ?

This may not be the best example in the world, but it'll do for the purpose of this "Look At".
Yep, the sad side of this example is that we all to often find comfort in our "sameness" (for lack of a better word) and then look down at those who are out of place, only because of the way they appear. So many young people hooked on this obsession with appearance has caused tragedies like anorexia, drug abuse ( to "look cool" and fit in ), etc. etc.

I often wonder where it all began and when did the outward appearance start becoming more than the real person behind the clothes. How is it even possible to measure the worth of someone only by the way they look. This triggers many other questions that I won't go into, but rather want to encourage you to think this through. The next time you see someone who may not fit into "your world", think carefully, who knows, that person may be of more value on the inside than you can imagine.

If you've got to this page and are reading this now, then you most probably one of those people who look around the net and find all kinds of weird and wonderful bits of information, on all kinds of topics. I know that I often zoom all over the world of the internet, looking at bits if info here & there. I often bookmark pages with all the greatest intentions of coming back to have a closer look. Some pages I save in the nearest folder (normally the desktop) to have a look at later on.
Soon my desktop has hundreds of saved html pages with all kinds of information and I go into the sort & cleanup mode. I start of really well by creating meaningful folder names on one of my 4 hard drives and file the related bits & pieces in their relevant folders. At some stage ( and I'm not sure when this happens ), I find I have similar or duplicate folders all over the place and fragments of related information spread across any of the 20 000 folders and somewhere that file which I'm looking for at the time, is hidden between one of the 300 000 files on my PC.
Now I haven't even gotten to my other PC or my 400 stiffy disks and 140 CD's. I haven't started mentioning my 2 Gig's of freeware; shareware; drivers; flight-sim or NT hotfix downloads.
Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh ..............
Oh and have I mentioned the 2800 printouts & 300+ books and the 160 scans and the 30+ tape backups and the 130 pamphlets and the 48 user manuals and the   .................. and the ..............
I think you get the picture .... Information overload !!!!!

more to follow, as soon as I find my ftp client  .......... I know it's somewhere .......
