Practical tips
Steph has set up a great piece on the Fairlight FAQ about this. She has a huge amount of info on there. I'm not going to reproduce or copy that, so please go there, ok? This is just extra things that was added on the Fairlight BB from time to time.
If your hands go to your hair, practice smoothly sending them all the way past your hair maybe out to the air on the side of you head
or tug on your ear
or pat your cheek
or reach up into a yawn-like stretch
or go all the way round and down to your hip
or just make some sort of gesture on the side etcetera :-)
If your hands go to your brows or lashes move them down to your chin or down to your chest in a sort of "oh my" gesture
If your hands go to your pubic hairs while you are in the shower or getting dressed or going to the restroom, slide them over to the front of your thighs or up to your hips
If your eyes go straight to your lashes or brows or hair when you go to a mirror, practice a quick shift up to the corner of the mirror (At first this still seem unnatural and awkward and silly, if you even remember to do it to begin with, but it gets more natural, and you get to worry just a little bit less about where your hands are and whether other folks can tell that you started to do something "bad.")
What I have learned since finding this BB and starting to be pull-free:
1) The JK Diet guidelines have really helped me. It is HARD to go sugar-free, but I feel much more emotionally centered, and it has really decreased the urges. I have been caffiene free for quite a while now, but I know that makes a huge difference in the urges, too.
2) I _cannot_ look at my problem "spots" in the mirror to see what their "progress" is. Looking in the mirror at a trouble spot is a definite trigger for me.
3) I have to try to get enough sleep.
4) I _cannot_ read before I go to bed. This was a terrible trigger time for me. I would be sleepy and tired, and then try to read something. I didn't read at all, and just ended up pulling lots of hair!!
5) I try to exercise everyday (walking). I don't pull when I am actively walking, and I just feel so much better after exercising. I think it really helps me maintain control.
What I've found EXTREMELY helpful is to tape a big cotton ball on the ends
of my thumbs. This is very effective for me because I (only) pull my
eyebrows and lashes. But the problem is...I get lazy and don't put on the tape
I have this handy little spreadsheet at work where I keep track of my pulls,
it tells me my averages, I chart the progress. Sounds nerdy, but it's
working! Cool thing is, as my average gets lower, this becomes my daily
max. target (target insomuch as making extreme efforts not to exceed this).
I gave up teen fashon magazines, too. I think that you should put that somewhere. It helped me cuz when I saw the models with all their hair it made me want to pull more for some bizzarre reason. Also all of those dateing articles make me suicidal cuz no guys ask me out cuz of my hair!
