The South African Journal of Economic History was established in 1986 when the Economic History Society's occasional journal, Perspectives in Economic History, was renamed. The journal is published twice a year. Topics covered include:

SPECIAL ISSUES
A recent innovation is a series of special issues devoted to a specific topic. Already published have been:

BACK ISSUES 1986-2005
Back issues are available at R60 (plus postage & packaging) each, except for Vol 1(1), September 1986, and Vol 2(1), March 1987, which are out of print. All issues are also available in PDF or XyWrite format at R60 per copy (plus postage & packaging if not sent by e-Mail). There is a listing here of all SAJEH articles published since 1986. The first decade, an article by Jon Inggs in Volume 11(1), March 1996, contains a synopsis of every article published between 1986 and 1995. The second decade in Volume 21(1&2), September 2006, contains a synopsis of every article published between 1996 and 2005.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
The journal is sent free of charge to members of the Economic History Society of Southern Africa. Anyone interested in the study and teaching of Economic History is eligible to join the society. The annual subscription to the journal, which includes membership of the society, is R150-00 (R300 for foreign subscribers and institutions) which is payable to the Economic History Society of Southern Africa.

ARTICLES & REVIEWS:
Contributions should be submitted to: The Editor, SA Journal of Economic History, Economics Department, PO Box 392, UNISA, South Africa, 0003.

Articles and reviews submitted for publication should be printed with double-spacing using only one side of A4 paper. The manuscript should be submitted in triplicate. Articles should not exceed 6000 words and reviews 2000 words. All references are to be identified in footnotes, patterned on the following format:

  1. E.N. Harte (ed), The study of economic history, London, 1971, pp 369-83
  2. D.C.M. Platt, "The problem of numbers: the stock of British investment abroad on 4 August 1914", South African Journal of Economic History, 1(1), 1986, p 5

    Ibid, op cit etc should be used where appropriate.

If accepted for publication, the final draft of the article must be submitted as a document of any well-known IBM-compatible word processing package. Articles can also be submitted via e-Mail to the Deputy Editor.
