COMPOSITION:
Each 5 mL contains:
Ipecacuanha Liquid Extract         0,250 mL         Contains
Glacial Acetic Acid         0,005 mL         Alcohol (100%) 18,9% v/v

PHARMACOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION:
A 10.1 Antitussives and expectorants

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION:
Ipecacuanha in small doses has an expectorant action, increasing the secretion of the respiratory tract, thereby reducing the viscosity of the mucous and inducing a productive cough that is less exhausting and less painful. It is of value in acute bronchitis when the sputum is scanty.
Ipecacuanha in large doses is an emetic. Acetic Acid has a mild expectorant action.

INDICATIONS:
Ipekakuanha-Tinktuur provides symptomatic relief from dry cough and acute bronchitis. In large doses, Ipekakuanha-Tinktuur is an emetic.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
None when used as directed.

DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
As an expectorant
Children         0,25 - 0,5 mL (5 - 10 drops) in water 3-4 times daily.
Adults         0,5 - 2,0 mL (10 - 30 drops) in water 3-4 times daily.
As an emetic
(To be followed by a copious drink of fruit juice or water)
Children, 6 -18 months         10 - 15 mL (2 - 3 medicine measures)
Older children         15 mL (3 medicine measures)
Adults         15 - 30 mL (3 - 6 medicine measures)
Doses may be repeated after 20 minutes if emesis has not occurred.

SIDE-EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
Ipekakuanha-Tinktuur should not be used as an emetic in patients in a state of coma or shock or in patients who have ingested corrosive substances when the dangers from aspiration are greater than those from ingestion, or in patients who have taken overdoses of anti-emetic drugs such as phenothiazines or other depressants.
